I really love singing and I do lessons at school. I like writing my own songs but somehow everything I write just sounds stupid when I'm finished. I like singers like Nerina Pallot and Missy Higgins because their lyrics aren't just shake your booty and you looking sexy over there and stupid stuff they actually mean something, any suggestions on themes or ideas for me to write songs about or ways to like what i write would b appreciated!

don't write because you believe it will be loved and popular, write your innermost feelings and thoughts, allow yourself to be vulnerable in a classy way, one that allows you to connect with your audience... What are you feeling right now in your heart of hearts... write about it and put it to a funky tune that is catchy...

Usually you are your own worst critic. I just put two songs I wrote into my computer even though ten years ago I thought they didn't deserve to be there. I thought of how I'm evolving and decided to put them in today.

If the song is written from your heart and not forced into a corner where popularity abounds, you will feel better about your work. Don't try to sell yourself. Sell YOU.

Write about how you feel about your environment. The profound things you see and do and how they effect you and your family. Get personal with the lyrics. Everyone from Dylan, Lennon, and Bowie wrote about their perception of the world around them. I hope this is helpful.

Everyone starts out writing crap. You write and write and write, and eventually you develop your style. Keep showing it off, because what you feel is crap may be exactly what someone else wants to read or hear.
