We had someone at work similar (?) to this Virg Tech killer - we thought one day he'd lose it and come in shooting everyone. We didn't know what to do so we just continued going to work with him always watching our backs. This is terrible - but what else is there to do? You can't report him because he hasn't done anything wrong? you don't want to hurt this person's character either if you're wrong - so what can you do? any suggestions?

I haven't seen any newscast either talk about proactive measures on what to do if you work or go to school with someone you suspect have the same characteristics as this killer - if I missed some program that discusses it please respond. Thanks!

Any time you feel threatened by another person you have the right to take it to your supervisor or manager. They are required to have the person evaluated and if this person is found to be unstable they are to be in the care of the professional until released. Often the company will pay for the help and pay for the employee to stay at home until they are better. They will put them out on a medical leave. Not to return to work until they are better. The Virginia man was actually thrown out of one of his classes by the teacher and reported by several students as being a threat to society. He was under the care of a professional and he was refereed to as being unstable and dangerous, yet they continued to let him attend school, and this is total neglect on the schools part. If you feel that the person that you work with has similar issues as the Virginia man I would take it to my boss and demand a mental health evaluation. They must provide you with a save work environment. Don't take any chances there are too many wackos out there. I was working with a guy who murdered someone and we were all suspicious about him but no one took action, until the police came in one day to arrest him. If you have the feeling, chances are you are right. Follow your gut feeling.

If you really think someone is very mentally disturbed to the point where you are concerned that they may potentially hurt people, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to alert this to someone. Maybe you are wrong, maybe this person wouldn't hurt a fly, but if your gut tells you otherwise then trust your instincts. However more imporantly than identifying potential killers, I think it is important to make sure that you have adequate security at your job or whatever public area you may be concerned about. I asked one of my managers at work one time, "What if someone brought a bomb into work? How could you stop them??". She responded, "If someone is absolutely determined to do something like that, there is not much you can do about it...". I do think there is some truth to that, however I feel that there should be metal detectors for employees to walk through and there should be X-ray machines to check bags when entering a workplace or a public area. Unfortunately the cost of this type of security outweighs the risk and only a handful can afford it.

I like Sawdust....but I thought Sam's Town and Hot Fuss were way better. I kind of see this album as a b-side album. I'm not sure if it is but that's my opinion. Besides that, I love the Killers!

You've gotten some pretty good, thought-provoking answers. However, I believe you should tell someone. Even if you're wrong, I always think it's better to err on the side of caution, especially when lives are potentially at stake.

Do nothing. First off, Cho Seung-hui is my hero. He shall forever remain in my memory as such. I wish I had his courage to mete out justice on everyone. Secondly, this is how the government breaks down...people turning on each other, constantly in fear, then they reduce our liberties and freedoms to "protect us" and before you know it, we're in a dictatorship where one wrong word gets you executed. Seriously...just be nice to him. A kind word or a candy bar makes all the difference. If he shoots you, you likely deserve it, because if you were nicer to him, he'd pass you by. Hell I say help him kill people. That'd be the most fun.

I would learn how to be very kind and if determined enough befriend him . As the saying says keep close to your friends but closer to your enemies. You may turn the person around and it is harder to kill someone that is not a astranged.
Not all of us have bullet proof vests or metal detectors.
good luck ,peace out.
