It's a third, it's nature.
We have no choice in it, we don't pick it. It's not contagious(which diseases are), you can't catch gay. It's not a choice, because we don't have one.
I mean seriously think about it, who, given this choice, would make the choice to be gay? To face a life with a higher rate of depression, higher rate of suicide, where you're ostracized, ridiculed, mistreated and hell even murdered? Does that make a lick of sense?
So you can't choose gay, you can't catch gay like a cold.
So far as we can tell, we're born this way, it's what science tells us. It's a natural variant.
To be homogeneous is the unnatural part. I don't at all understand why everyone always tries to make us seem like freaks, it's good to be varied, makes the world go round.
Diversity Rocks!

it is neither a disease nor a choice...
among the choices you have given, none of them fits to be the best answer...
homosexuality is most usually caused by the environment an individual lives into. if the person lives in an environment mostly made up of gays or homos, then there is a great possibility that the person would be influenced by his or her environment...
another reason could be due to the truamatic experiences of an individual. if the person had a very bad childhood experience then that could be a possible reason...
another reason could be that a child particularly a boy has or had no father figure during his early stage of development, due to this factor one child could become a homosexual. or maybe the father figure of the child had a very negative image in the perspective of the child himself...
so that is basically it...
these are just some of the most common causes of homosexuality...
hope i answered your question.......

I never noticed how ignorant people were until I started asking and answering questions on here. You really think that homosexuality is a disease. Did you not go through school at all? I just don't understand how people can be so clueless.

You question really isnt worth my time, but I guess im gonna waste it cause I have nothing better to do right now. I think its for many different reasons, each person is different and I think there are different things that cause it. trama, possibly a mental illness or disease of some sort, genetic something or another with hormones. and all kinds of ****. Not growing up with influences or role models of a certain sex and missing out on a certain affection/love as a child, just the same as when a young girls father dies, alot of times they subconciously/mentally fill there desires with needing attention from that sex, and unfortunately subconsciously use sex to fill that, but i think thats only a momentary thing. ANYHOW, what I really wanted to get at, is the fact that if its not you, you will NEVER fully understand what its like to be that way. Maybe you should have compassion for people, you really think people who CHOOSE to be hated, and all the terrible things you can go through in life just because they CHOOSE to be gay. GIVE ME A BREAK! Hope you at least figure that much out someday and maybe try to help those people. I DO HAVE TO SAY THOUGH, I think the IRRESPONSIBLE hetro sexual world may have alot to do with it. Because so many hetros are making babies and not taking care of them well, therefor cause mental problems in normal average everyday people who happen to be or become gay, thats what we are still trying to figure out.

to the guy talking about hormones... Dude you're just way off... if a guy had women hormones he would grow boobs.... (not trying to be funny it just sounds off)
Anyway its not a choice and its not a mental disease. Its not something that can be fixed with a magical pill or a class course. Its just an individual trait like eye, skin and hair color.
However i believe this..... You may have sexual desires for the same sex... but it is you that chooses to act on them. Every gay man makes that choice for himself but he is still gay even if he doesn't live the life style.

It is neither.A person is born who they are and nothing can be done to change it less that person wants it to be so.
To the person who is talking about religion here ,Where the heck does relgion fall in this. That is so wrong to bring up relgion because a person doesn't choose to be this way so therefore they are not sining when doing this.A sin is based on right and wrong, and acting on something knowing weather it is good or bad.Much like laws. What do you guys come from anyway. Are we really living in a society where none knows these things?
But coming from a christian that's really expected.

NEITHER.
It's simply a sexual orientation. Not a choice. (Can you CHOOSE to be straight for example?) Not a disease.
*Edit* And third3dynasty is incorrect. For humans, the correct term is intersexual - not hermaphrodite (which is being fully male and fully female).

Your options that we can choose from are drastically limited to negative picks that put the matter of homosexuality in a rather negative light.
What's your scheme?
