There will be a great deal of pressure to get rid of guns, but I have several concerns about this:
1) The constitution makes provision for an Organized Military and an Unorganized Militia of Armed Fighting Men and Women that could mobilize into a fighting force if needed. So the idea is if a foreign nation invaded our country (which could happen) the people in our communities being armed could mobilize into a military force.
2)every country that has removed guns has seen an increase in violent crimes and criminals such as Cho.The criminals will still be able to buy guns somewhere.Violent criminals take advantage of unarmed people, as did Cho.
3)It is this punish everyone for what one person did kind of thing.
4)there will be a backlash against PTSD survivors and similar people.
5) ban guns, they kill with fertilizer, ban fertilizer, kill with propane, ban propane, they kill w/household items, ban household items, they kill using rocks, ban rocks... and on and on.
thanks

the thing is guns makes killing easier, and that's the scary thing about having a gun in the wrong hands. But killers are the ones killing not the guns. A killer will kill using anything. Plenty of people have killed people using fire and other simple items.
There isn't an easy answer. If you profile you victimize a lot of innocent people.
aren't there plastic weapons already? ones that pass through metal detectors?
It is such a hard issue. The quickest place to profile are people who are massively picked on. Those seem like the most likely to lash out.

are you sure removing guns will reduce their ability to kill? - I honestly don't think so.

point #2 was from statistics I heard about a few years ago - I think from PAul Harvey's show. I can find the transcript maybe.
It has to do with the morality of the culture we are living in - what kind of people the culture produces.
Canadians are too busy following hockey to worry about doing things like this, it would take them away from the games... My goodness the Stanley cup is about a month and a half away now..
I'm kidding.

Monkey .. It isn't A or B - it is C - but I get your point, where C is they find another way to kill a bunch of people not using any guns.

NO - Gun laws will only affect the law abiding citizens!
Criminals will still do whatever they want, that's what makes them criminals!

There is NO such thing as a 100% plastic gun, the most is just 20% with still 80% steel or alloy.
Why has gun crime rates been falling since the 1990s?
Homocides have been dropping in the USA since the 1990's along with a increase of gun sales. To levels of the 1960's Which were prior to the "Gun Control Act of 1968" and prior to the Liberal attitudes of Lyndon Johnson "Great Society." Which by the way started our welfare state.
Please take notice that population has increased, gun ownership has increased as well as gun sales. there was also a increase of homocide rates during Clintons so called assault weapons ban and since the ban fell so has the homocide rate.

when ever they make things illegal there is always a higher demand for it... they made pot illegal but people still get it and smoke it.. knowing the risks of it... anytime you cant do something is when you want it more.. or when you don't have something you want it more.. i know that when i tried to quit smoking if i got rid of my cigarettes i wanted one.. but if i kept a pack in the house the need was there,.. just knowing i had them.... i know that a weird example.. but it's the need to have.. not to use.....taking away our guns from the citizens that have the knowledge and the smarts to keep them put away. wont solve this problem... look at every building that has been taken over and blown up... if chong sung we or whatever his name was didn't have access to a gun.. what makes everyone sure that he couldn't have just blown up the school ??? if some one that desperate wants to do harm and goes undetected then he is going to stop at nothing until he reaches his goal.... i don't get why people think that guns kill people.... you put a gun on a table and what does it do? nothing but put a psycho in that room with that gun and what is the first thing he looks at? i grew up with guns in my house.. knew which ones where loaded and where they were... my dad also taught us what they could do if we played with them and took us to a gun range... and us 2 kids never touched them.... he taught us the what would happen and i think that by making you kids aware and teaching them.. it takes away the mystery of the gun... now as far as people go like this VT guy.. there should be a higher age law of who can buy guns and a more in depth back ground search.... i am not blaming the guy who sold it.. but why was a college student who lives on campus allowed to buy a gun? campus' rules state you cant have one on premises and he clearly had a campus address... so what's with that? the guns weren't the problem its the psycho people allowed to own them

I don't think removing guns will help get rid of killers. I just feel that some of the laws for gun control should be stricter or maybe seriously be looked into. I believe in the right to bear arms. I just don't believe guns should somehow wind up in the hands of children or seriously demented people or people who abuse drugs. Don't ban the guns. Just make it more difficult for the wrong people to get them.

It isn'tusually criminals who kill the kids. It's usually a normal, law abiding citizen with a license for guns and an obsession for them.
Criminals use guns for a reason - to commit their crime. Usually robbery. Not for mass murder.
Here in the Uk, they banned guns after the Dunblane shooting. And so far, we haven't had another such incident. Thank God.
I am not afraid of guns - I grew up in a household of guns - my brother is a sniper, my father is a champion target shooter. But they're unnecessary - toys for boys. And it's time the boys grew up.
I don't know anyone who has ever used their gun in self defence. But I do know a man who shot and killed his brother in an accident.

I moved to Nevada two years ago and our family has guns but they are locked in a gun safe at my in-laws in California. I have seriously considered bringing them to our home due to the fact that if someone was armed at Virginia Tech, MAYBE this guy could have been stopped. With no one carrying a gun, he was allowed to go on his spree.
Nevada will give a concealed weapons permit to people who pass the legal requirements and education. I would like to be able to protect my family and friends from lunatics like this guy. At least, it would give me a chance.....

Most guns that career criminals own were bought on the black market. baning the sales of guns makes no difference. Does marijuana being illegal stop a person from smoking it? the answer is no. Guns will be available to those that want them no matter what.

Let me ask you this.
Do you think probability of car accident is higher when you have
A)10000000000 cars on streets in the US
B)5 cars on streets in the US
Pick one. A or B?
Stricter gun laws still don't have to be ban on guns. I like to see stricter laws, but nobody really need to buy gun ASAP. It's not like you see someone run at you with gun and you go into gun store and say 'give me gun now!'
Va Shooting revealed obvious problems. Cho have been sent to mental institution. His instructors alerted police about disturbing behaviors. All Cho needed to do was lie in a simple form by marking right squares.
It's not too much to ask they do more extensive background checks, and possibly random psychiatric evaluations on gun buyers.
Sure they might find more creative way to kill, but that doesn't mean Va gun laws don't need second look.
This is like asking why buy security system for your home when they'll find a way to break in anyways? Wasting all that monthly fees?
It is hard to draw line how far is too far with gun laws, but I think we got lot of room to push it little more.

I don't have a gun in my house but I am glad people can have guns as the bad guys don't know for sure if i got a gun(s_) or not..
Guns don't kill people..People kill people..
I don't need to be reminded every time there is a shooting about gun control..
If you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have guns...
There are 250,000,000 guns in the United States..and only 300,000,000 people..
that's about right...methinks..wonder how many illegals? hmmm do they have guns too? well maybe..

I disagree with Point #2. Where was the violent crime increase in Britain and Japan? Also, Canada has almost as much guns as we do, but they don't have the massacres we do. Why is that?
