I have recently listened The Doobie Brothers from the beginning of 70'. This very skilled and elegant band has, as far as I understand, not got wider popularity in Northern Europe, however. Is it because other bands of this era (like The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y) were better-marketed by record companies, rock magazines e.t.c.? Can DB (as I think) have a significant status in the history of rock music? What has their history been like after 70's?

When Michael McDonald joined the band, it changed a lot. McDonald is the American Top 40's #1 backing vocals artist, with 38 top ten entries using his vocal talents up to 1990. (Stevie Nicks led the ladies with 35.)

And in 1994, the Doobie Brothers were elected to the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame, presumably on the primary strength of song Black Water.

The role of Michael McDonald in history of music, should go down as one of the greatest and underappreciated Blue-Eyed Soul singers of all time.

They had one hit in late 80s, maybe early 90s called The Doctor. I saw them recently on something and they still sound great! Oh it was a concert on HDnet :-)
