I planted some cherry tomatoes in my vegie garden but they are growing straight up like trees, is this productive? If not, should I tip them and how do I go about this without damaging the plant. I live in Australia.

Maybe you got something other than cherry tomatoes(someone may have switched the label) Also here to make the tomato plant grow taller & more nutrients going to the fruit we pick the "sucker" plants off. Suckers are the leafy stems that grow out between the other branches. You might try letting the suckers grow for a "bushier plant".

Have you had ure soil tested to see of the Ph in the soil is right for the tomatoes if not tipping them wont do any good. In the states it does the same thing, if the tomatos doesnt have enough of the nuritents that it needs it wont give off any tomatoes. So if theres a place in Australia that test soils to see if the soil's for the growth of veggies or fruits is what the plant needs or not. Take a sample of ure soil and take it there and tell them what you are trying to plant.

It sounds like your tomatoes are in the first stages of growing. Normally they will grow strait up till they get so tall, close to the height of a tomato cage then they will start bushing out. I wouldn't tip it over. Sounds like they are growing just fine. You don't need to pluck off the suckers branches. You won't get anymore tomatoes by doing so. So it's just a waste of time to do so.

If they are older plants, it may be due to the variety of tomato you have or due to poor soil conditions. This fall till some organic matter into the ground like rabbit manure. In the meantime, I'd recommend watering your tomato plants with Miracle Gro for tomatoes.

If your tomatoes are healthy and have good soil they should have a nice dark green color. If they are light in color, watering them with Miracle Gro should help darken them up.

Let them grow. Cut back any branches that start to die. Plenty of water. They may not last the winter unless you live in a hot climate
