My grandfather recently died and his house is to be sold. In the garden is a beautiful camellia, which was his pride and joy. It is too big to transplant but I would love to know if i can take cuttings to grow on in my own garden.
Thanks in advance

Propagate by stem or leaf-bud cuttings, late summer; seed when ripe; layering in autumn. Camellias are easy to grow given a humus rich, lime free soil. They thrive in tubs provided you use a lime free potting mixture and water them with rain water. In areas with frosty winters, do not position where they will receive direct early morning sun; too rapid thawing will damage the cuttings and flowers.

I've rooted camellia in water and with rooting hormone and soil. Cuttings 6 to 8 inches long, strip off lower leaves and plunk in a clear container of water or treat with hormone and put in soil. good luck.

Well, i don't know how i did it then. Cut a piece about 8 ins long and stuck it in the ground last year. Now i've got a new rooted plant and i moved it to were i wanted it to be.

Remember they need special soil to thrive, so if you do take cuttings follow all instructions carefully. If you haven't got acid soil in your area then replant it into a tub of ericacious compost. If I was you I would cut it right back so it's small enough to dig up and transport. Good luck.

Simple

YES YOU CAN!

but make sure you follow any instructions because they need special soil to grow in and need special care especially straight after they've been moved and planted
