I disagree with most answers given to this subject.
Cyber sex is kind of a mind game, people doing it, hardly ever really meet or even know each other in any way. Even the names used are fiction. The whole thing is utopia, phantasy. The kick is, to do something exciting with someone else but your partner, without really doing it. Think carefully: When you masturbate, who do you think of, your girl friend/boy friend? Or someone else? Would this be cheating too?

If you are in a commited relationship, any type of sex that is not with your partner is cheating. I'm sure that your partner doesn't know that you are doing it. If you are doing behind their back, it's cheating. If you are truely happy in your relationship with your partner, you shouldn't have to go else where to find pleasure. You should be happy with what you have at home. Put your self in your partners shoes. If your partner was having cyber sex with someone on the internt, would you feel like you are being cheated on??? You would probably feel like you are not doing enough to keep them satisfied. If you want to keep your commited relationship, I would suggest you not cyber (unless you have one of those rally OPEN relationships and your partner doesn't mind). Most people would. Good luck...

Yes. If you are having sex of any kind it is cheating. The emotional element of sex is the cheating part. So having cyber sex is robbing your wife of the emotions you should be giving her.

Yes it is. I would kick my husbands you-know-what up and down the street if I found out he was cybering w/ someone...

Personally, I believe that cyber sex is a gateway to REAL sex... Obviously if what you have is not good enough that your parter is looking to someone else to get their needs met then there is definitely a problem.

If your partner is cybering w/ someone, you need to confront them. If you are the one cybering, then SHAME SHAME SHAME.

my first response is yes.
the only way i would consider it not cheating is if one was TOTALLY upfront with their partner about what they're doing online. i mean, even letting them see what they're typing. maybe they could laugh about it, understanding it's just some kind of impersonal thrill that they get. or experience it together.
but it's usually not like that with online encounters. it's usually a hidden, deceptive thing and that is hurtful to someone who cares about you.
think about it...you are typing intimate things that you would say to a lover to another person! while your "commited" loved one is being lied to. it's not a healthy way to keep a relationship.

Hmmmmm. I would say if you are doing it behind your partners back, then yes it is definately cheating. Anything that you would not like your partner to find out about is better off not being done.

Having never tried it I guess I can't really give a qualified answer. But to me any desire to get sexual gratification from anyone other than your spouse would have to be classified as cheating.

If your spouse knows EVERYTHING and is OK with it, then no, it's not cheating. If you are hiding ANY part of it, then yes you are bing dishonest, and I would suggest that you grow up and take your responsibilities seriously.
