What is the point slope formula?

Also, how can I find the X-Intercept of an equation, like "4x - y = -2"?

Thanks.

Point-slop formula is:
y = mx + b

For that equation, the point-slope form would be:
y = 4x + 2
Therefore to find the x-intercept, you would make y=0:
0 = 4x + 2
4x = -2
x = -1/2
x-intercept = (-1/2, 0)

Solve the following formula for x with y=0 to find the x intercept:
4x - y = -2
4x - 0 = -2
x = -2/4 = -1/2
therefore, the X-intercept is (-1/2, 0).

Use the formula y=mx +b where m is the line slope and b is the y intercept.
Solve the following formula for y with x=0 to find the y intercept: 4x - y = -2
4(0) - y = -2, y=2, so the y intercept is (0, 2).
You know 2 points on the line from knowing the y intercept and x intercept. The slope is given by the following formula:
m = [y1 - y2] / [x1 - x2]
m = [0 - 2] / [ -1/2 - 0]
m = - 2 / [-1/2]
m = 4

To verify the slope and y intercept, plug the y intercept and slope into the formula y = mx + b
y = 4x + 2
Rearranging to compare with given formula:
- 4x + y = 2
Multiplying both sides by - 1:
4x - y = -2, which agrees with given formula

What is the point slope formula?
(y - y0) = m(x - x0)

Also, how can I find the X-Intercept of an equation, like "4x - y = -2"?

set y = 0 and solve:
x = -1/2

Well you start off by putting this equation into slope-intercept form (y = mx + b) after you do that, b is your x intercept.
you would have y= 4x+2, 2 would be your x intercept.
Point slope form would be y-y1 = m(x - x1).

point slope: y-a=m(x-b) where (a,b) is a pt on the line

put y=0 to get the x intercept

so the answer would be -1/2
