One action? Voting...in a totalitarian society , the leadership is chosen for you, through coercion. IN a free society voting allows you to pick your government, to vote for those that will keep the society free and open.

Also keeping our freedoms requires us as good citizens to exercise our voting power, so that the leaders don't take us for granted.

So voting is the action that defines a free and open society.
