I'm not saying that it's the cause of the shooting itself, but that the asian subculture is responsible for some asians being easy targets for bullying by turning them into meek geeks, and bullying often triggers violent behavior. The approach of only focusing on academics might make someone popular in asia, hence the lack of school shootings in asia, but in this country it's guaranteed to make you an outcast. Maybe if his parents had taught him some social skills, he wouldn't have gone around stalking women and been so aloof and antisocial.

First let me say that their are 15,000 students at that particular university, 4,000 in the dorm, and 11,000 who reside off campus. Virginia Tech yesterday had a Press conference on Fox News, and one of the Authorities (there were 3), and I don't know his title said that they do have a security system, through email, and other technical means. However the time that the incidents occurred, was in the A.M. when the students were commuting. When they did arrive they felt that it was best to lock down when they did arrive. Truthfully at the time of the news conference they were still doing the investigation of the witnesses, and they did not have all the answers yet. That said, I believe they should have metal detectors as they do at the airports, and I.D. cards (ones that can not be counterfeited), as they are planning to do with Passports in the United States. Secondly when an incident does occur they should have a loud siren like they do in Israel, and other countries during war time alerting people to go into their shelters. That wll alert the ones who are commuting. For the ones that dorm they should have a PA system installed. These are the only measures that I can think of, aside from strickter gun control laws. Truth to tell, it is unfortunate but whatever measures are installed it seems that when a deranged person, or a terrotist is determined to harm people unfortunately they always find a way to work around any security system that is installed. It is like a no win situation, but we have to do what we have to do no matter what. G-d should help those families, to be able to overcome the tragedy of losing a chlld.

He came to America when he was 8, her's been here for 15 years...He was probably more Americaized (dont think that is spelled right) and probably doesnt know much about his asian culture to be honest, he may but I wouldnt be surprised if he didnt have much ties to his culture. I dont think that being smart automatically makes you a target for being bullied.

The approach of only focusing on academics might make someone popular in asia, hence the lack of school shootings in asia, but in this country it's guaranteed to make you an outcast-------I dont really understand how you think that these is logical. We may have more school shootings but who says that all the shooting are done by kids who are "Smart" I mean most the young adults that passed because of the shooting were smart, and educated men and women.

Someone with great socail skills could stalk women so that really is unlogical, Also I dont think his parents really could have done too much to make him socailize. I work in daycares and Ive seen children that pretty much stay to themselves and dont enjoy playing with other children....you cant make them play with others.....I dont think you can teach someone to be social

mmm..it really depends.
its either Cho, asian subculture, his classmates, or just their personality.
for one, i am asian, i get straiht A's but hell no im not a meek geek.
i think you have a good point with the asian subculture thng, because in the states culture is more MATERIAL while in asia it is BELIEF/TRADITION.
other than this in the states ppl learn to survive, on the other hand SOME in asia dont.
then there are the international schools in asia, which i know really pep you up if youre a meek geek you aren't gonna survive.

however, in this case, it is because of Cho's mentality.
but your point is partly true, however it wil not affect al Asians because now things are changig.

and to all ya bullies out there you beter stop, its partly your fault too.....

No. If you had watched CNN, you would know that they had interviewed his great Aunt, and even when he was a young child, before his family moved to America, his aunt said he was always very quiet, troubled, and wouldn't speak.

Anyway, I don't think Asian subculture is responsible at all for bullying. I live in a city where there are many Asians, and everyone is pretty social.

Race or Asian culture had nothing to do with this particular situation. The killer was no different than the white Trench Coat mafa killers at Columbine.

The guy was imbalanced. I've known some people as bitter and hateful who blamed everyone and thought of themselves as the victims. The difference is that this guy snapped and turned his rage outward to other people. If anything, this had more to do with his own personal psychologial problems than anything else.

I think asian has nothing to do with it.. i mean not only asian stalks people... Black, mexican, white and many other race of people do crazy things.. NOT just asians! so get it straight. And Columbine school had two white kids making homemade bombs and shooting and killing innocent people and bombed the cafeteria while many kids were in there though the homemade bomb was a bit failure.. and there are many other school shootings... injuries... stealing and many other violent and unlawful things.

hmm. i wonder if you are student becasue what you are describing is pretty much the opposite of schools these days. from my experience, they are as a group indeed pushed more by their parents and therefore very intelligent. but they tend to take a lot of pride in their grades and such.....they get into good colleges (stanford, ucla, duke, norte dame, mit) and so they really dont have reason to feel unsuccessful or kill themselves.....and then tend to loosen up a little in college the party scene.

i've never seen an intelligent asian targeted for bullying in my life to be honest. they are always in the library or being consumed with theri extracurricular activities to rack up points to get into good colleges. no one bothers them.

No i don't. You can't think that just because this poor mixed up sole was Asian.I truly believe it all boils down to rude, ignorant, selfish, heartless, and way to cool for anybody to hang with them, kids.;That might not be the reason either but i think it plays a big part in all these very unfortunant school killings.I in know way am saying that it or even that it's right .Just that it's a good possability.Just one guys outlook on this subject..

According to the news, the Asian guy (Cho) viewed the columbine shooters as heros. I think this sicko got the idea from those killers and not the Asian culture. This guys apparently was treated good by his roommates who were white. Cho also killed an Asian guy as well. His attack was not racially motivated. I think its best to keep this simple. The guy was sick.
