The US is the b*tch of the the shieks, Iran, and Hugo Chavez because of oil executives' greed. The US got jumped into Iraq over oil, give me a break about all the other baloney reasons. Does the govt think we are stupid? We are all consuming oil, even lots of treehuggers are driving oil burning cars around. Sorry, I went off on a tangent.
These oil people have sold out their own country to make a buck (many many bucks).
What is the hold up with mass producing hybrid cars? People would buy them if they were affordable. Don't give me the "we are waiting for hydrogen fuel cell technology" because that is YEARS away. Hybrids are not the best technology, but they are here NOW. Just mass produce the damn things already.

We are trying. If you look at the gas pump next time, you will see that it contains 10-15% ethanol, (federally mandated).
New automobiles are designed to run on up to 85% ethanol. There are hundreds of ethanol plants currently operating in the US and hundreds more being built. We cannot keep up with ethanol demand, and therefore have to import much of it, at a greater cost. If you consider that the US is larger in population and roadway than all of Europe, you have to realize why we are the largest consumer of crude oil in the world. It is also a fact that we import most of our crude oil from Mexico & Canada, (followed by Venezuella, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria).
The government does not force people to choose whether or not to buy a Hybrid, that is driven by market demand, but they do offer tax credits, (or at least used to), for environmentally friendly cars.
I would also love to see us get off of foreign oil, but we are so extremely dependent on it, that it will take some time, kind of like steering the Titanic away from an iceberg.

What do the oil companies have to do with Americans becoming less dependant on foreign oil ?

You act like they determine what kind of cars the auto makers make.

Or what technologies get researched.

So how have oil companies sold out america, for providing oil and gasoline to america ??

That just doesn't make sense.

You seem to be blaming the oil companies for you personally not doing anything and for congress not doing anything or the american people not doing anything about using so much oil.

And thats the whole point, right now, there are no alternatives that are as cost efficent as using oil.

People aren't gonna spend 30 cents to drive a mile, when by using oil(gasoline ) it cost 10 cents to drive a mile.

Just look how much they bitched and whined when gasoline prices went up 20%.

Can you imagine what they would do, if the government mandated hybrid cars that increased the cost of cars 30%?

Because gasoline is still cheap enough that people will pay the price. If you think there is a conspiracy between the US govt and foreign producers you are certifiably nuts. Why would the govt wish for a big drain on our economy? It defies logic. OPEC does sometimes vary oil production to punish the US, which is a conspiracy against the US, but the govt isn't involved.

If we went to war in Iraq for the oil, why isn't the price lower? That shoots down that part of your conspiracy.

We operate in a global oil market. Oil consumption throughout the world is high enough to sustain the price that is paid. If world oil consumption were to fall, the price would go down to influence more consumption. It's simple market economics.

The prices right now are high enough that one would think the govt would allow opening more oil fields to drilling and encourage shale extraction technology, but there are still people in govt that will not allow any new domestic drilling, by reason of environmental politics, no matter what the cost of oil or the affect on our economy

Ah, the shame of it all...it comes down to money. Most are invested in it, that's why. All you have to do is get out of those big old gas guzzling SUV's and boycott them two to three weeks for the high price of oil that you buy and the energy companies. While I am at it Congress is set to vote on two Bill that will greatly restrcit grassroots groups from disseminating information to the little guys! The Two bills would also fine you for doing it. The House Bills are 254 and 984 to violate your free speech and restrict you from having legal redress with your own government! There goes the 1st Amendment!

Partially because there is no "oil crisis" yet. The price has gone up a heck of a lot, but it is obviously not at a breaking point for the average American consumer.

We tend not to do anything about a problem until it becomes a major problem, and then we tend to over react. Not sure why, but that is the American way.

even if you could magically have everyone drive a hybrid today all that would do is delay th eproblem . we'd be back where we are in a few years. what needs to be done is allow more refineries to be built and allow drilling in our own country we have plenty of oil off our coasts and in Alaska. Just look at what happened in Florida they stopped off shore drilling and then Cuba just drilled off the florida coast anyway. so we need to rely on our own oil as well as make these alternative fuel sources more attractive and affordable to the consumer.

Because most people don't care or understand, how important oil/energy is to us.
To mass produce hybrid cars would use alot of energy.Maybe to much to make it worth it,,,,Check this out

The original name of the Iraq invasion was...

Operation
Iraqi
Liberation

they changed it the day before the invasion to Operation Iraqi Freedom...look it up.

Virtually ALL oil industry engineers/experts agree that world oil production reached its PEAK on December 16th 2005 and it will continue to decline from here on. No matter how many holes we put in the ground we will never be able to produce more oil than before the peak. Look up "Peak Oil".

So now we are spending all of our energy and wealth on controlling the remaining reserves under the assumption that if we control the oil we control the world.

Because the oil companies are nice lobbyists when in comes to persuading a politician to vote a certain way. And Bush and his daddy are both butt buddys of the shieks. Not to mention companies like exxon, and others have bought the licenses to affordable electric cars or other motors that run off of any thing else. See the movie... Who killed the electric car?

The oil executives are the government officials. They are getting big fat wallets from the oil business, (wasn't that an oil tanker with Condi's name on it?) You can't even imagine the number of zero's on their bank accounts.
