If we go out in the media and tell everyone we going to place a surge of troop in Iraq in two weeks the enemy is going to retreat, so of course it will seem like it's working. Once we let our guard down again the insurgents will move in again.

The war the Iraqies are fighting is decades old we can't just go there and shove american ways and customs into the way they live it wont work it's never worked. Liberia Vietnam just a couple examples.

Because nothing will ever work if you people keep encouraging the terrorists to hold on until you can force our troops to withdraw. Do you think they don't know how hard the democrats are working to insure America looses this war? Democrats hate Bush more than the terrorists do. They are doing everything in their power to insure that Bush is not seen as victorious.

Their only dilemma is trying to figure a way to force the troops out while Bush is still in office so he will be seen as the failure. However, if they just cut the funding, then they will be seen as causing the defeat. So now they are trying to figure out how to get the defeat they desperately want without anyone blaming them.

The worst case scenario is if the troops are still in Iraq after Bush leaves office and a democrat wins the presidency. Then what will they do? They will look like the losers. Can't have that.

The surge was working so well, Bush wanted to extend it.

That means more boots on the ground for an extended time.

BTW, that is what Rummy should have done by listening to his damn generals instead of making things up on a whim.

Rummy screwed the pooch. Bush let him. And now we are screwed.

Iraq can never be saved except by Iraqi's themselves.

Actually, the violence hasn't increased--it never went down in the first place--it just moved around.

But to answer your question--the fact that the surge isn't working is becoming harder to conceal. Not that it wasn't obvious it woud fail from the getgo.
