I used to set the wheel on the floor and go to bed. Speedy (my hamster) couldn't resist. I'd hear him on the wheel and retrieve him. Hope this helps. Worked every time.

hamsters cannot jump. If he has fallen 3 foot, he will be badly injured and probably gone to hide while he dies slowly. He will have internal injuries as well as broken bones. Cages are secure. The only time he could escape is when you didn't put it together properly or left the door open. Try leaving the cage on the kitchen floor overnight and home he isn't so badly injured that he can drag himself to his cage. Then get him straight to the vet. If all is well, learn to fasten the cage properly, or if you still insist that you are not at fault, go out and buy a better cage.Do not allow the hamster ever to be in a position where it can fall from a 3 foot high surface.

Every time we had an escaped hamster in my house, we would follow the trail of 'pellets'... It would normally take 1-3 days to find him but he always turned up. Also, you could try laying out in the middle of each room a piece of celery or another vegetable that your hamster likes.
Don't panic, just make sure that anytime that someone opens an outside door you watch very closely to ensure it doesn't get out of the house. And check everywhere for the trail of 'pellets'!

Oh dear... I think she will probably come back -- it is unusual for an animal to leave her babies for any length of time. Most likely she is still in the room. Keep the cage open with food and water inside. If she has a favorite treat, put that in the cage too. Keep the room quiet and dim and hopefully she will return.
Good luck!

She's probably still in the house and yes they can and do climb up and down stairs. The best thing you can do is get one of those safe humane rodent traps. Put some food in it that is her favorite. When she goes inside the door closes and traps her in safe and sound until you find her and let her out.

My hamster got loose when I was a kid! A week later she some how made her way upstairs to my bedroom and into my bed! No joke! True story!
Try putting peanut butter on your counter in the open and check your kitchen cabinets regularly, she'll get hungry!
Best wishes!

When my hamster escaped I got my dog to help. He sniffed around the house and brought us down to the basement. We found the hamster in back of a box. Hope you find yours, good luck

I have two pet rats......just last week one got loose....I could not find her for three days. I later saw this hole that she chewed on the bottom underneath the couch and crawled inside. So check in the couch but be careful. My rat is alive but has really bad cuts.

Whenever mine got out, we would find him under my mom's dresser. We only had 1 floor, don't know if they climb stairs, but they seem to like dark cozy places like that.
