If you play Rock you want a Gibson or Fender. If you don't, who cares?

Gibson are good guitars, if a bit pricey. If you're going te be learning how to play, may I suggest some less expensive alternatives that will work well? Yamaha makes some decent acoustic guitars for the money....So does Alvarez. In fact, I have one now and it's held up quite well. Fender is okay for a beginner, but they're often hard to play and impossible to tune. I don't care much for Ovation or Applause gutiars, but others swear by them. Martin has some less expensive acoustics now and they sound /play pretty good! I would try to keep the initial cost down--you can always buy a better guitar later. besides, after playing a cheap guitar for a couple years, you'll REALLY appreciate how great a better guitar sounds and plays. Best of luck!

Gibson makes pretty good guitars. It really depends on the style of music you wish to play, and how much money you want to spend.

If you know about guitars, you know things to look for that show quality. If you don't, find someone who does know what to look for and ask them to go with you when you pick your new guitar.

Martin also makes great acoustics, as well as several other companies.

Gibsons are very good, another good brand is Taylor guitars. But I would recommend buying a less expensive guitar if you're just starting to learn to play. Dean makes inexpensive guitars for beginners, and Martin guitars are pretty good too. I guess it's like buying a Ferrari to take your road test. If you want to learn to drive, buy something you're not afraid to wipe out in a few times! Once you're sure that you want to be a serious player, then shell out for the prime equipment!

dude! the only thing I can say is play a bunch of them. The more you play, you get an Idea you want to convey in your music. I personally played a few before I decided on the one I have now. It gave me the bass and clarity that I needed to make my song make sense. Before you pick one, find yourself musically, thats a big investment. If your just starting, go for a cheap one to hone your skills. How do you like for an Answer?

Too heavy huh? properly enable's see... Epiphone SG (knock off of the Gibson SG) is lighter... element is although each and each guitar has a distinctive sound... you'll be used to the sound of the Les Paul and not liek the "bigger tone" of the SG... you may desire to get in line with risk a Fender Strat off of ebay for that value... Any case, sturdy luck and rock tricky!
