I received this email from Pandora, whoom I just discovered from an answer here and absolutely love. They are citing recent increases in royalties by the Copyright Royalty Board for internet radio stations. From what I gather this is the target. If they increase this, then shouldn't they increase satelite and local stations royalties too. I don't think the internet station promotes pirating, so why should they be punished, and in the end us? I don't do any of that file sharing or etc b/c I don't want to do anything illegal here, but I love the radio.

So if you have any questions on what was sent to me or any comments on what I am saying here, please post or email me. I was invited to sign a petition of the SaveNetRadio Coalition but don't have all the facts, yet.

The RIAA does not care about the royalty, they are using the copyright board, which simply rubber stamped their requests over the protests of National Public Radio and virtually all commercial and non-profit organizations, to STOP all internet streaming. The rates, while ruinous to non-profit organizations, is not the main issue, but rather the reporting requirements. RIAA now requires a list of EVERY listner for each and every song played. There is no software invented that can do this, and RIAA itself could never process such a horrific volume of data. The previous rules simply required average listening levels and number of songs played hourly.

Try Pandora Radio. You can get it on the internet. What cool about it is that it personlises the music for you. You just type in like one artist you like and then they lay their songs and song similar to it that you might like. Its really cool i think. Plus you can just listen to the regular radio.
