Or am I wrong in thinking that it sometimes honors a killer when a network is willing to show his sick, twisted videos and his horribal face 24 hours a day? They are giving him exactly what he wanted. It makes me sick!

I really agree with you. He terrorized the students in person and then he ordered the rest of his terror to be carried out by TV to twist that stab knife into the wounds of the families and friends of the victims and other students (and actually all of us). They did his dirty work for him and obliged his last wish of terror. I asked the same thing yesterday. Check it out:

I think that in a way it was needed, as someone said before "it makes people aware" It is a part of our history now, and this is how we have to learn from it. There are books and documentaries on Hitler, Charles Manson, etc. and what they said and thought, and they explain how they did what they did. I mean you might worry in the back of your mind of a new Hitler showing up and taking over, but it's not something you would think/worry about every minute of everyday. Yes there is the fear that there will be copycats, but that's going to happen, there will always be some sick person out there whether we like it or not. But knowing what to look for, before something like this happens again, by knowing about these videos just might help. (even though I do agree also that it's kinda too soon) Plus there's a strong chance that it will have, especially with youtube, been leaked on the internet. It's just better to have it out in the open...

sorry for the long response.

I agree with you 100%. I also think that by broadcasting the issue on the news, it actually motivates other sick people to do the same thing, to kind of compete with the killer. I know we need to have respect for those who lost their lives and that is what the news is thinking they are doing, but look at all the threats already this week at schools across the country. Kids think that is they can do better, they will be recognized. I don't think it is a good idea for the whole 2 hour newscast to be about this shooting. No, not at all!

You have the "kill the messenger" mentality, like thousands, perhaps millions of others. Should the media not have shown the WTC towers on 9/11 because the story might upset somebody? The media is reporting on the story, and part of the story is that Cho made a video tape of his psychotic ramblings. If anything it should serve as a wake up call to be more aware of persons that are mentally ill that may be dangerous. The media is NOT honoring this maniac, and he sure as heck is not around to enjoy the attention. He is dust, and won't appreciate the attention.

They have a difficult job when something like this happens. Woudl it have been more appropriate for NBC to have aired the fact that the killer sent them a package and that they were consulting with those affected as to the appropriatness of airing the material? I think so. One or two days to consider and cunsult woudl have made a big difference. Maybe the media is starting to get the message that they had best police themselves better or risk a public backlash which they do not want to have to deal with.

I entirely agree with William, the box that NBC received should have been turned over, unopened, to the authorities for examination, it should not have been left to media heads to treat this information as their own private property as it was evidence, not a means to gain ratings for themselves.

This is not comparable in any way to what happened at the WTC on 9/11 which was in plain view, involving criminal acts against the entire country.

We already know that exposing these films have historically stimulated others to copycat Cho's actions, it's been proven time and again. In their zeal to "break the news" NBC will be complicit in the next tragedy by the next copycat who will be stimulated to act out.

It would be appropriate to charge NBC with tampering with evidence, perhaps that might be a wakeup call that there are limits to the freedom of our press.

I incredibly have been picked on in college besides as anybody i've got ever met. anybody has some thing they may well be picked on for(tooth, braces, freckles, too tall/short, skinny, fat....) i'm not a psycho killer and neither are thefriends that I incredibly have had, hell I even took antidepressants for some months whilst i grew to become into sixteen, just to verify I basically had stress. it form of feels that anybody has an excuse for this crap. those anybody is basically straightforward loopy. this is the only excuse.

I think there is always some stupid ***, that says some stupid *** thing, such as "well, I was picked on, and I'm not a killer"

Well, were you CONSISTANTLY picked on? Did people laugh at you ON DAILY BASIS - did they MAKE FUNNY GESTURES when you read, because you couldn't read ON A DAILY BASIS did trip you in the hall EVERY OTHER DAY
did anyone hear the lates Alec Balwin tapes? Where he is talking to his eleven year old like she is dirt? Hell, EVERYONE has a breaking point, and UNFORTUNATELY, there ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT PUSH THE ENVELOPE TOO FAR, because they are too stupid to realise when someone is on the edge of breaking, and they just don't know when to quit

NOBODY deserved to die, but this behavior was cultivated, much like a weed in a garden that was fed, watered, and inspired to grow out of control.

It is healthy to expose his sick, twisted nature, so others don't want to emulate his behaviour. It makes you sick, and me too, but if we repressed the truth, other lunatics would glorify this as a political act - it wasn't. He was just a vicious loser.
Nothing to admire there. Nothing to fear either - pity may be appropriate, but right now I'm saving that for the victims.

i think i know what you mean, but i don't think he is getting honored. it's more like he's getting 15 minutes of fame. i hate the the media talks about him so much. forget about him. he's a loser. why not discuss the victims, how to avoid this from happening again, etc. why can't the media do without talking about that freakin moron? i am sure he wanted all of this attention and figured he would get it when he blew himself away. based on what pain he has caused, why give him the satisfaction whether he is here to enjoy it or not. the peice of crap isn't worth it.

As an observer I believe that.

I also think twisted killers also believe that and it is a major part of their motivation for committing their crimes. It is sort of "Look everyone who said I was a worthless loser that no one will every pay attention to. I am now famous!"
