Important to who? The modern day Egyptians or the ancient Egyptians?

Modern day Egyptians: tourism and national identity.
Ancient Egyptians: It's the final resting place for their pharaohs. Egyptians believe in the after life and that their bodies must be perfectly preserve as well as a good resting place with no disturbance so that he or she can live an eternal life.

first of all they were the burial place for the Pharaohs who thought themselves to be gods. in Egyptian culture Pharaohs were the go between for the local people they died and made a way for for the common people to get to Paradise it was thought that people buried next to a priymids would have a better chance to get to heaven. so many Egyptians would have burial graves as close to the pyramids as was possible. now the majority of the builders of the pyramids were paid workers not slaves. they were entertained at the Pharaohs expense feed fruit and fish along with bread. as found in the excavations sites around the pyramids.
