The answer is C. First you need to find out how many hits he has.

139 x .281= 39

Now add three more hits and four more at bats.

42 hits and 143 at bats

42/143=.2937 or .294

39 hits in 139 at bats produces an average approximately .281 and add 3 hits=42 and 4 at bats=143
42/143=.29370=0.294 C

to get the first number multiply 139 x .281 for hit amount

Mult 139 x .281=39. That tells you he had 39 hits in 139 at bats. then you add 3 hits to 39 = 42. add 4 at bats to 139 = 143. The divide 42/143 = .294

139*.281=~39... 39+3 = 42, 139+4 = 143

new average = 42/143 = 0.294
