Scientists are not morally neutral. Science is such a vast field, the focus/study of a scientist is actually very narrow in topic. I mean scientists aren't lab crazy people that experiment everything from single cell to attempting to create a frankenstein. Scientists have moral & ethical standard just like everyone else.. . I am assuming your question is referring to human embryonic stem cell research...... because I dont see what is morally wrong with conducting research and studies on plants ( & there are a lot of scientist out there that perform research on plants )........

No, like most people, they make moral judgements. I work in a laboratory, and know several scientists who will not work in cytogenetics (chromosomes) because the results, if abnormal, could lead to a baby being aborted. So they have made a moral judgement not to work in that area. Also, those who work for organisations such as Doctors Without Borders have decided that working with the poor and disadvantaged is better than in a developed country. That would be a moral judgement.

*Science* is morally neutral ... but scientists are human.
Also, keep in mind that morality rarely comes into play in the sheer discovery process of science, but rather, in the decisions of policy makers (who are usually NOT scientists, but politicians) as to whether and how to *use* the results of science.

Some think they are, but some also think of themselves as gods and create their own morality from that.

Who's morals are we going to live by? Who decided right from wrong? Should we live by Bill Clinton's morals or Hitler's or Gumby's??? If you believe in evolution then it's all up to you, you decide what is right and wrong for yourself, so if you don't like purple dinosaurs singing 'i love you' songs, then it's ok by your morals to destroy all of them. Wait, what if 2 others thought it was morally correct, it's 2 against one so they should destroy you for your belief!!! However, if you believe in God then we have to live by His standards because He is deciding right from wrong.
