People are motivated by different things, but "urbanization" has been going on for decades. It mostly has to do with the collapse of rural economies worldwide, thanks to the mechanization and capital intensive nature of agricultural production. In other words you don't need as many workers when you have machines doing the work...so people go to cities to get jobs.

I grew up in CA and now live in Arkansas and the rural folks want excitement and they get it in the city. In the middle of nowhere, where i now reside, everything closes at 9 or 10 pm and in some cities that is when the evening starts. The only answer i can give you is they want a change of pace and they get that by moving to the big city.

Most rural people are friendlier and less stressed. There isn't nearly so much noise, traffic, or crime for the most part. Sometimes those of us that live in rural areas are behind the times so to speak, but we love it like that. I have worked in a large library and a small one and there is a huge difference. I prefer the rural life!

The only reason I can think of why people would want to move into a city is either for a job, or for easier access to cultural events.
For me, I'd rather move to the country.
In my experience, city people are a lot more rude and inconsiderate than country people.
