Check you fan. Is it pulling air thru the radiator? I am only guessing that it cools down once you get moving. It could be a bad fan clutch or fan motor, fan switch and even a fan relay if it is an electric fan.

Some high performance engines will get hot if they have to idle for a long period of time. If you have any doubts though you should try to change your thermostat. They stick sometimes.

no it is not normal, you may have a sticking thermostat, or your electrical fans aren't working (if you have them, I'm not sure). At any rate, you do have a problem and you need to get it fixed before it tears up your engine.

your modle car probably still has the fan clutch.. they get old and stop working.. if it is not the thermostat then it is either some radiator restriction or the fan clutch.. check with the parts store they can help you check the fan..
