Is candidate-centered campaigning the idea of promoting the candidate's personality instead of his views? The style that Barack Obama is using?

If that's what it is, I would never vote for any candidate that does that. Unless you care enough to tell me how you want to cut government (which is always the best solution) and how you will cut more government than the other guy, I'm not going to vote for you. Running on your personality is something that dictators like Hugo Chavez do. Running on substance is something that real leaders are supposed to do.

What on earth does that mean??? Of course the campaign is centered around the candidates - what else would it be? Of course being centered on the candidate means the political views and plans they represent - not on their personal life.

The personal life should only be touched upon to show us what kind of values the candidate possesses.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, isn't that the reason for campaigning in the first place?
