Aminoacids are fundementally important in biology as they are the building blocks of proteins and can also act as chemical messengers. The human body can only synthesise some amino acids but requires the intake of others from a diet containing protein. Proteins are basically polymers of amino acids and are broken down in the body, ironically, by enzymes-which are also proteins.
