I would like to disable the "Door ajar" alarm/buzzer for my 1998 Ford Explorer four door. The door on the car cannot be repaired but needs to be replaced. In the meantime, I would like to disable the alarm because it is driving me crazy. Any suggestions anyone?

The switch is on the inside of the door handle. Its a known problem area with ford. Try spraying wd-40 or other lube into the latch mechanism on the door. Spray into the side of door where the latch engages the striker. Do it many times . Open and close door repeatedly , If the switch isn't broken the alarm should stay off.

The most common problem with the Explorer is the transmission. The early explorers, '90-'94, had transmissions explode while towing anything, hence the nickname "Exploder". A new or rebuilt transmission runs over $1000 installed. Explorers also do not hold their value like their counterparts, the 4Runner and the Nissan. The interiors, such as the drivers seat, have a tendancy to breakdown prematurely. I enjoyed my Explorer, but for about $2000 more, I bought a 4Runner and enjoy it even more and have had multiple people offer cash to buy it from me. If that is what you can afford, then buy it, but if you can spend a little bit more, go for the Toyota or Nissan.

take out the fuse. it should be located where the car door meets the side of the panel. just pull the plastic piece off and it should tell you on the back of that piece which fuse controls the door ajar. if not you can look in your car manual and it should tell you.

Wedge something against the sensor, to keep it pushed in.
