Those adult prisoners that where young and healthy, had a chance of surviving their arrival at the death camps. (Most childeren, the old and the sick were sent directly to the gas chambers at arrival.)
If they didn't became ill, weren't hurt or killed by the camp guards, and could hang on to their meager food ration (or could get their hands on smuggled food), they had a shot at surviving. But the slightest whim of a bored camp guard could always mean instant death and a one-way trip to the ovens.

this is an easy question as the largest number of holocaust survivors in Germany were those who worked in the German factories mostly skilled workers making guns ammunition and vehicles for the war effort. almost all the other were exterminated.

A number of reasons... Some were kept in concentration camps instead of immediately killed in gas chambers, and survived despite disease and little food when the camps were eventually liberated.
