It is spelled Taoist but pronounced like a D. Tao translates into Way. It originally came from the book The Tao Te Ching but Lao Tzu. The book is full of aphorisms (a form of poetry) that have deep meaning and give you a great way to live your life. Lao Tzu was from China and an important part of Chinese history. The Tao is basically a way of life. It has many many many significant points to it and is amazing writing. If you want to learn more read The Tao Te Ching.

A very good way to understand a difficult philosophy is to read the Tao of Pooh. (Pooh Bear being a simple reference).
