I have used the Ouija board many times over the years and have heard some of the most highly fantastical stories attributed to it.
There is absolutely nothing "magical" or "evil" about the board, it's all myth.
What alot of people do is turn the lights out, light a candle etc and get into the "let's scare ourselves" frame of mind and your "imagination" is going to run wild, the power of suggestion is a mighty powerful thing.
The planchette DOES NOT move on it's own, it's called the ideomotor effect, unconsciously the person is moving their hands enough to make planchette move, it's what is behind "dowsing" and "automatic writing"as well.

If there really is an afterlife, I'll bet the best way to contact it is through a plastic, mass-produced board game from Milton Bradley! --Mad Magazine
True story:
Years ago someone that I worked with had moved into an old antebellum plantation house.. He swore that he had ghosts in his attic...He could hear footsteps late at night...
So he, myself, and a couple of others decided to investigate.
We all spent the afternoon and night....I brought a divining rod , a metal detector, and an ample supply of good southern whiskey... Someone brought a Ouija board....Late at night we say around the board and asked questions....And every time there was a clear and frightening answer.....Until everyone caught on to the fact that I was moving the pointer!!!
Anyway we all got drunk and had a good time....Oh yea I saw the "ghosts" around three AM.....I went to the attic (Novel idea?) and found a family of raccoons.....................
The Ouija board is just that a piece of wood and plastic...It has no power that you don't give it.........But remember that if you wish to speak to "Spirits" be prepared to receive an answer......Do not open doors unless you expect someone to walk through them!!! OOOOH....OOOOh...OOOH ..Booooh

A simple OuiJa board can be made with slips of paper with letters on them and numbers if you wish, as well a two slips that say Yes and No. Arrange them in a circle on a smooth surface. Place an upside down glass in the middle of the circle and have those who wish to participate place a forefinger on the edge of the glasses bottom. Ask a question.
Remember, the glass and the slips have no power. Your hidden thoughts, needs, and sometimes devinations will start the glass moving for good or evil.

Good question, I didn't move it when I was younger. Had a bad experience the one time I did use it. However, I don't know if my best friend was moving it either. She passed away about a year later. She was as scared as I was that day. Could be we scared our self into believing the worst or maybe it was all just in our head. I will never know, nor will I ever use one again.

Spend about $16 bucks on some manufactured cardboard and plastic in a box? Then I can communicate with spirits? Why doesn't everybody own one? Sounds too easy so count me in!
Seriously look at this link at self-deception.
Self-deception is the process or fact of misleading ourselves to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid. Self-deception, in short, is a way we justify false beliefs to ourselves.

wow I swear I saw this question before? I think that they are fine for someone who has experiance and the discipline to know how to use it. I don't think anyone I have met who has ever been experianced enought to do it. I know ppl who have practiced paganism and clarivoyance for over 10yrs so I would say that is something for impression. I have practiced for 7 yrs and I touched one once didnt use it and got a very very bad vibe.

Ouija boards? Yep I probably still have one somewhere maybe in the attic .
-have you ever tried them? my sisters used to play with them but I kind of did it one time and thought it was pretty stupid --
-do you think they really work? No I don't really believe they work .. Do they scream if you burn them -- probably not -- my sisters would probably scream -- I think one of them originally paid for it ..

I am a Christian. But before I was a Christian Me and a couple of camp friends were playing with one. it worked alright. the board was right on, on some futuristic question we asked it, but it couldn't spell worth a darn. We asked it several yes and no questions. The Champlain from the camp knocked on the cabin door to check on us because it was lights out and the dial piece spun around and flew under one of the beds, right out from under my fingers. True Story! That is actually one of the reasons I became a Christian that week.

Tried them when I was 13 (B-day present from mom).
Never worked, never. I suppose that I didn't expect it to, but it was truely less than useless. We did have some fun with it, but that was us moving the planchette and making up silly messages. I admit, it is fun for a slumber party.
I still have the board, but I'm a missing the planchette thing. I keep it in my closet and guess what? Still does nothing.

Yes.
Yes.
That said, the one I used exposed some facts none of those in the group was ready to face. If you use one, be reasonably settled in your own mind first; you could learn a lot fast, or practically nothing.
Proceed with both caution and courage.
Peace.
