The Necronomicon is a book mentioned in writings of HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and a few others. The Necronomicon mentioned in those fictional writings never existed, and neither did "it's" author, "The Mad Arab".
Several different publishers have printed their own versions of "The Necronomicon" in order to make money. In these cases, the book is a meaningless ploy to take money from customers and give it to bookmakers.
The Necronomicon, as a construct in a collection of fictional horror stories, is not associated in any way with Witchcraft in any form, including religions such as Wicca. It is also not associated with religions based on worship of the JudeoChristian symbol of evil known variously as Satan, the Devil, and Iblis.

The original Necronomicon was created by L.P. Lovecraft as Taliesin stated. It was thought of as a Book of Shadows that was crafted by a man who was driven mad by his adventures into darkness. After Lovecraft's work of fiction was published, rumors that an actual book existed came into being. It was rumored to contain much very dark magic and to even read it would lead to madness. Since then books were written by others and had claims of being the original book. This is what I have been told . I am generalizing here , but my experience is that people who are into the Goth lifestyle and are witches have a real knowledge of Lovecraft's works. You might want to look into some of the Goth views on Necronomicon. I hope this helps. Blessed Be.

The necronimicon is a book invented for a fictional series of stories By H.P. Lovecraft. In the 1980's some unethical person wrote a phoney spellbook called the Necronimicon and marketed it as the " lost book" described by Lovecraft. Its a fake. There never was a real one.
