i bought this dvd rewriter but it doesnt read any cd-rom including the one it came with. Its connected as primary. I dont know what else to do. The computer recognizes it as a dvd ram but it wont read. When i put in dvds or cds it reads(displays the name) them in My Computer but it wont play them even if i click on the icon. please help

In retail box, it usually comes bundled with Nero burning software and Power DVD to play movies. Try installing Power DVD so you could play movie discs.

Sounds like you need either a Firmware and\or a Driver Update,
It could also be that you need a specific driver for your OS.
Check your drive's manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.
