"Cho" ... as in the Virgina Tech shooter.
It's really just his "buddies" who are calling him that and they actually are doing it to his face, not just behind his back.
His name is Kang and he's a really nice guy, but I don't know him very well.
Would you be offended if you were him? Or what if you just heard people calling him that?
When my friend told me about it (as if it were hilarious) I was pretty shocked/taken aback that people would consider that funny. I actually think it's pretty messed up.

I don't know for sure whether or not Kang has a problem with it, and I don't feel close enough to him to ask.
My friend who told me about it said he can't tell if Kang thinks it's funny or not.

Still too fresh and ranks about a 9 on the offensive scale and a 1 on the funny scale.

I don't think the families of those who were gunned down would think it was funny. Of course it's wrong! It's a sad day when we can start laughing and joking about mass murderers a few minutes after the slaughter. I think you are right for saying its pretty messed up. If I heard someone calling an asian person that name, if it weren't his name,I would respectfully say something and remind them of all the families who are suffering at this time. What a pity! What has become of the human race?
Of course it's not everyone but sometimes I wonder how can people be so uneffected and go on business as usual. Thats my answer and I am sticking to it.

Kang? I thought for sure they'd be calling him Kodos from the Simpsons. :S
But no, calling him Cho is NOT COOL. Unless your Kang doesn't take any offense, that is. If he doesn't, I guess that's alright. Obviously doesn't irk him. But if he does NOT like it, those guys need to be reported to the boss.

NOT funny. Not funny at all. How crass, and disrespectful. Is there an anonymous way that you could report this to HR? Even if Kang is ok with it, it is not ok. What a bunch of creeps.

That's messed up. Seriously, I would talk to someone in charge, and get it taken care of. See how funny these guys think it is when they get an unpaid vacation.

Not only is it racist, it's just downright disrespectful to the memory of 32 dead people. To make a joke of the mentally ill person who so deviously plotted to murder innocent people is just stupid. Obviously, your coworkers/friends have no class or sense.

Typical "ugly American". Cho was American, not Korean; never mind the green card. He lived here and went crazy here since he was seven I believe. There's no hope for the proud-ignorant. They make me ashamed.
