When my Dad turned 70, he had recently remarried and moved away from his lifetime residence. Since all three of his kids were spread about the globe at the time, I orchestrated a birthday card party. Found every person he cared about in his life that I knew of, got their addresses, announced his birthday, and asked everyone to send him a note or card or old photo or tell a story. He had a laundry basket full of correspondence when we arrived with his cheesecake. It was pretty neat, and he loved it.
