First let x= 0 and solve for y: in this case you get y=-1/2.
Next, let y=0 and solve for x: now you get x=-2.
Finally, plot both of these points and connect them--thats your line.

Hey Roxy,

You want a graph. what you do first is get some points on the graph. We usually get graphs in the y = ... form. So, you have 4y=x-2. This is a straight line. and it will be easier to stay away from the fractions of a y= ..... graph. let's make 4 points. Say for y=2, then 4, then 6, then 8. So substitute 2 in your equation. The equation really says x= 4y +2 You know that, right? so y=2 means x = (4 x 2) - 2 = 6 for y = 4 : x = (4 x 4) - 2 = 14. do it for y=6 -> x =26. Again for the other point. It is good to do at leat 3 points, even for a straing line.
Then you have graph paper. or you make some with a ruler. the y axis is done up and down. The x axis left to right.The points are given as (y,x). So for x=2 we have (6,2) for x= 4 we have (14,4) Then (26,6) and (30,8)
Your equation was bad for an example. A better kind would already be in the y= ... form, with no fractions. y = 2x + 2. why don't you do that one, for 4 points, and graph it.

The easiest way to do this is to first rearrange the equation to slope intercept form, which basically means solving for y: 6x + 4y +2 = 0 4y = -6x -2 y = (-3/2)x -1/2 So now you know your slope and the y-intercept. When x is 0, the line hits the y-axis at -1/2. Plot that point. To get additional points you can do it one of two ways: [1] Use your slope of -3/2, and go "up" -3 (which is really going down 3) then over to the right 2, and plot a point. You can do this a couple of times then connect the dots. [2] The other way is to plug in some values for x, and find out what y is, then plot that point. For example, putting in 6 for x will give you (-3/2)*6 - 1/2 = -9 -1/2 = -9.5 and pluggin in -4 we get 5.5 Hope this helps.

First you have to move to y behind the =.
1st- subtract x-x then cross out, move -x behind -2
it should look like this 4y=-2-x
2nd- divide 4y by 4 then divide -2-x by 4 now it should look like this y=-.5-x
3 put it in a chart like | x | y=-.5-x | y | (x, y) |
| 0 | y=-.5-0| -.5 | (0, -.5 |

rearrange to a form you recognize:

4y + x = -2

4y = -x -2

y = -x/4 -1/2

plug in points for x to get y
(note how it's now in the form y = mx+b)
