I have seen a chicken in the middle of the road and on the side of the road, but never actually crossing the road.

We are not sure which side of the road the chicken
was on, but it was moving very fast.
The possibility of "crossing" was encoded into
the objects "chicken" and "road", and circumstances came into being
which
caused the actualization of this potential occurrence.
And whether the chicken crossed the road or the road
crossed the chicken depends upon your frame of reference.

Yeah, but it was definitely nothing to make a riddle of. It was a hen and all her little chicks. But it was SO sad because some ignorant freak ran right over the chicks. I wanted to murder the person.

Yes. A car almost crashed into another to avoid it. It was pathetic.
