You hear about the side effects for every medication that has an advertisement on the televison, and all the side effects sound awful. Check out the actual percentage risks, however. Most of the side effects of birth control pills have to do with smoking, or with pre-existing medical conditions, not just with the pill. That said, of course there are side effects. But there are benefits. In a relationship where both have tested free of disease, it makes using condoms unnecessary, and allows sometimes for more spontaneous interactions. For some women, it can be used to regulate menstrual cycles and make them less painful. For others, there's the convenience of being in control of their own birth control choices. Condoms aren't for everyone, so it's a good thing there are alternatives. Just remember that only condoms have a chance of preventing transmission of STD's, and even that is still listed under the fine print as not 100% reliable.

nausea
weight gain
bloodclots (including pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke, etc)
headaches
acne
umm I can't think of the rest.
I had the same problem as you. But everyone reacts different to the pill. I was nauseous for 3 months, my migranes continued, more acne, and I gained about 15 lbs. I pushed through the phsycial side effects for the first three months and it was completely worth it.

The most serious could be blood clots. There should be
information with the prescription when you get it. You can
also call your pharmacist and they will tell you what all of the side effects are.

The pill is hardly the only option for contraception.
You need to see your family doctor to begin to find out what's really wrong with you. and you need to understand that there are far more options available to you than the pill. You may also need to be referred to a different GYN.
