I am only 30 but...

1. There was a clash of soft metal (like Warrant) and harder stuff (like Soundgarden). The hip hop scene was also a clash, you had hip hop lite (M.C. Hammer, C + C Music Factory) and harder stuff (Public Enemy).
2. The Seattle grunge scene was very cool at the time.
3. No, not really, I liked to sing.
4. Yes, Tesla, Def Leppard, Ugly Kid Joe, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, The Reverend Horton Heat, Pantera, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Babes In Toyland, Paw...
5. "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche.
6. Nirvana.
7. All of the above.
8. MTV.
9. Cd players, radio, MTV videos.
10. Very Slouchy, Grungy, and sometimes babydoll dresses with big boots.

I'm 43...
1. Disco. There was also what was called "corporate rock"...Journey, Chicago, ELO, Styx (Tommy Shaw...sigh). Country was coming back as well...Larry Gatlin, Kenny Rogers.
2. Robin Williams was coming into his own as Mork from Ork, (nanoo nanoo), the Not Ready for Primetime Players on Saturday Night Live.
3. I had taken piano lessons a few years earlier, but played only for my own fun.
4. Our town had just built a new Civic Arena, and there were a lot of concerts then. I saw The Little River band, the Oakridge boys, and the Gatlin Brothers.
5. Boat on the River by Styx. It still is.
6. Styx and Queen
7. I was more of a geek then, (still am for that matter), and didn't go to parties much.
8. Cable was just starting then, and there wasn't much abailable beyond the Big Three, ABC NBC and CBS. We didn't have a favorite station, we just watched what ever station our shows were on.
9. I had a stereo with a turntable and a cassette tape player. I don't recall even hearing about VCRs at that point. I think it was a couple of years before they came out. CDs, MP3 players and so weren't even dreamed of. My kids think it's funny that I didn't have a computer until after they were born, and no internet until even later.
10. I wore jeans, t-shirts and sneakers mostly, occasionally a little dressier. Clogs with wooden platforms soles were big, as were ankle straps and Candies (Think Olivia Newton John in Grease). "Farah hair" was popular, as were leg warmers, and lacy topped anklet socks worn with strappy high heeled sandals and straight leg jeans.

Hope this helps.

If you want 14 & 15, that was 1966 & 1967 for me. I'm 55 years old, so at that time1.rock, was the most popular music. 2.Beatles, Stones, Monkees, Dave Clark Five, etc
3.didnt play instruments, didnt want to. 4.yea, local Chicago rock bands like The Buckinghams, New Colony Six and Cryan Shames. My parents wouldnt allow me to go to a Beatles concert.5.Too many to choose 6. Too many.7.The top 40 stuff of the time, same as today I assume. 8.Well FM was not the norm then, it was all AM stations and mine were wls and wcfl am stations from Chicago. 9.Transistor radios with an ear plug or desktop radio and records. There was no tapes or cds or mp3's. 10. Clothing style around then was alot of bright colors and paisley prints. Mini skirts or granny length was stylish, nehru style shirts and the Ben Casey shirt was big. Lots of loose "hippy" clothes, very casual.

I'm 34

1. Hair music (rock) and new wave were popular
2. Some popluar singers and bands were: Michael Jackson ( I didn't like him, but you can't talk about 80's music and not mention him). Hall and Oates were (and still are) the highest selling duo, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Prince, Janet Jackson, Poison, Lots of one hit wonder bands as well.
3. Didn't play anything but always wanted to play the drums
4. First concert was in August of 1987. It was Ratt and Poison (Oddly enough they will be on tour this summer again but this time Poison will be headlining)..other concerts in the late 80's...REO Speedwagon/Richard Marx....Kiss/Winger/ and Slaughter....Cinderella/White Lion....Bon Jovi
5. Favorite all time 80's song was "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard
6. Favorite artist was Def Leppard. One of the only albums I can listen to from beginning to end and love every song is "Hysteria"
7. Anything upbeat. All genres.
8. TV channel was MTV. They actually played musc videos 24 hours a day. There were no good radio stations where I lived (the Upper Peninsula of Michigan)
9. When I first started to really get into music I was in middle school and it was all about cassette tapes. My first tape I got for my birthday was Prince "purple Rain"...still one of the all time best albums. CD's came out when I was in HS
10. Clothing style was a jean jacket with levis...polo shirt. Didn't get all goofy looking like other people in the 80's. Although I did sport a mullet. I guess thats goofy enough.

++ When I was 14/15 I wasn't allowed to listen to "mainstream music" as my parents felt there was "filth" on the radio.....
++ at that time our (there are 4 kids) also only allowed us to watch a very small amount of TV (and I am so greatful for that, now that I am an adult)... we were allowed to watch "The Brady Bunch", "Lawrence Welk" (that was for music", "Wild Kingdom" (educational about animals in the wild), and anything put out by National Geographic... and that was IT.... for a total of no more than 3 hours a week!!!

When I turned 16, they allowed me a radio to listen to in the mornings before school... that was the ONLY time I was allowed to listen... Then when I started singing along with the songs (how was I to know what the words "Feel Like Making Love..." ment).. at that point in time the radio was removed from me.

Then when I was 17, I was given the radio privledges back. This time they also allowed me to use a Record Player and a 8-Track TapePlayer..... that way they could have some control over what I listened to. They allowed me & my 15 year old sister to listen to the music they bought... in the mornings before school and for 1 hour on the Sundays.

I don't think there was any portability in music players.

then I would say "ever heard of 80s hairbands"

I was born in 1965
