I would pay off all my bills, build a house for my parents and set up a trust for my children. If you mean what is the first thing I would do for others...I would pay to finish construction on the local day center that cares for the disabled. Then I would buy these portable aids that help non-verbal people communicate (it speaks for them)...I would get one for each of the children in my son's classroom that needs one. I would also set up a fund to help purchase adaptive equipment for local families with autistic children.

You sound like a great kid! I hope my little guy grows up to be like you. He is only 2 now. I think I would buy my parents a new house down South because it's too cold for them here in NJ anymore and then put some money away for Jimmy's college fund. After that, I would really like to put the rest into setting up new shelters for battered women and their children and also for the homeless. I think those two groups of people need the most help right now. Imagine living outside with nothing when it's only 28 degrees. It's a terrible thought.

There is a homeless man that lives by my husband's job. Jim brings 2 lunches to work sometimes on the off chance of seeing this guy (He kind of wanders a lot). We gave him some old clothes a few months ago, but we haven't seen him in a while. All I know is he used to work for Jaguar and his name is Bill. He got hooked on heroin and lost everything because of his addiction. I don't have much money, but we do what we can when we see him. I just feel terrible for him and I wish he had more help, but I don't even know his last name, if he has family, etc. What I do know is there are a lot of other people like him and if I had the money, I would definitely like to help.

I like your idea...it is uplifting to see a teen with such a good, caring, giving heart in this day and age.

It is sad that utilities companies are only about the money anymore and shut you off if you are even a few dollars late if it is more than 30 days.

Many communities have assistance with gas bills in the winter; your Mom could check with the local welfare office or local trustee to find out the criteria. When I was growing up we had the same thing happen, but my contacted the local trustee and he was able to refer her to a program that paid for about 2/3 of the bill and was able to get the gas turned back on because she had children under 18 in the house.

Good luck!

I would figure the best way to prevent the government from confiscating over 1/2 of it so that I can make it grow and have the benefits of the money last far longer than a few generations.

Unlike government, I could do some good with my money. Government would have it spent on useless garbage before the day is through, and would be looking to blow some more.

I guess it depends the amount. Generally I would give some away to people whop need it, spend some and put some in a account and supplement my income with the interest so I have enough to live on cause I don't earn very much. I am sorry you and your family are having financial trouble. Try and let your parents worry about that kinda stuff!!

The world is such a cruel place.

I would pay off my bills and give out a good chunk of it to habitat for humanity. Too many families on the street without a home.

Its a shame.

If I won the lottery I would set up a trust fund for all of my nieces and nephew to get a college degree. If they already had their degree I would give them a down payment to a house.

Pay off all of my bills and get the NY out of H*** (or the H*** out of NY if you prefer).

But since the odds of winning are so long, I'll just continue to dream!
