7x^6-8x^5+(15/7)x^4

(49x^2 - 56x + 15) / (7x^2 - 4)

= 7, remainder -56x + 43

Synthetic division is just like regular division, only far more glorious. When you realize what you're doing here, you will be an algebra demigod.
