On French radio, there were some speeches run by various candidates for the Presidency, including the right-winger Jean Marie Le Pen. There is alot about their unique culture and the need for immigrants to participate more in the culture as French citizens. There are also a lot of reports coming out about poverty, racism and mistreatment directed towards Middle Eastern immigrants, especially Algerians. There has been a national emergency because of riots. There are complaints of a lack of minority rights and multiculturalism. Do you think there is a middle ground for Muslims in Europe that benefits both sides?

Yes they should integrate in Europe or in any other new country other than their origin. It does not mean they can not still hold onto their own traditions. It would also probably help the new country feel they are grateful to be there and accept them better. This applies to all immigrants in another country.

Both ways. Europeans or any host country find difficult to accept new comers. Muslims cannot imagine themselves blending in unless you accept their worldivew as THE worldview. However (I live outside of my country of origin) the immigrant has to accept and be at peace with the fact that by moving abroad he or she is leaving behind his or her own customs and habits and be willing to embrace what his or her host country has for him or her. I'm happy in my new country, speaks the language fluently, and don't feel forced to deny my origins. Most of my friends are from cultures other than my own because my own culture is so intolerant. This is why I left my country in the first place. However I've grown more appreciative of my origins living abroad and letting myself being fully integrated into my new country.

European prejudice. I don't recall the European people assimilating when they invaded all the other countries. Now that those they invaded want to be on an equal footing with them, it worries them because it proves they're not any better or worse than any other human beings.

Both. Host Countries should have the tolerance & patience for their Muslim immigrants to adapt & fit in to their new homes. While Muslims should realise they are NOT in their homelands anymore, & they should adopt as many of their adopted homelands customs as they can.
