I just gave my two weeks notice at my job. Is there a difference between just flat out quiting and giving a two week notice? I thought there was but, my coworker thinks that they are the same. I thought quiting was like no notice and you say "I quit" then leave. Then a two week notice is giving your employeer time to find a replacement with in the 2 weeks. Please help.

In a way you are right, and in a way they are right. From a certain point of view, two-week notice is still quitting. The connotation of "putting in your two-week notice," however, is still different than "I quit!" Just quitting is slightly different, with the connotation indicating that you just walk out on the job. It is the inproper way of leaving your job. Putting in your two week notice is the proper and acceptable way to quit. It is still quitting, making your co-workers right, but it still holds its own meaning as well, making you right.

Yes even though you gave notice at your job you are still quiting. But by giving 2 weeks notice you are showing respect to your employer therefore perhaps a better reference

Did you sign an agreement when you were hired that specified a 2-week notice? If not, you are not obligated.

yes, one is more polite and give him time to look . two weeks is more polite
