And all you wanted when you called or picked up with them was to hear about them? Yet, they just tell you is information you could care less about? I mean no disrespect. All I am saying is, why do some people think we care about their neihbors, friends, etc. when we only call to hear how they are doing?

When you get somebody like this on the phone who begins talking about nothing for hours and hours just make an excuse - you've got something on the stove, somebody at the door, you need the crapper, you pet dog just threw up on the sofa, or pretend there's a fault with the line - just keep saying "hello" "hello" "hello" (as though you can't hear them) and they will soon hang up.

Learn to cut short the conversation by being polite but honest. Just respond quickly to the last topic the caller was rambling about and tell him that it was really nice to hear your voice and (not but) I have to go right now. Something you need to do. Will talk again later.

It is uncomfortable but tell yourself it is O.K. to do this. Cutting people off is not rude. You should seriously think about your own welfare (as much as the caller).

Life is short. We need to learn to care about ourselves a bit more.

People are lonely and need to talk to someone. I had a cousin once who would call me and talk, and talk, on and on. One night after about 15 minutes I put the phone down and came back 10 minutes later, and he never missed me. lol. I don't recommend doing that, because if they catch you it is very rude and would hurt their feelings.

Yes, both my mother and sister. One could walk away and come back 5 or 10 minutes later and they would not notice I was gone.
