Soooooo, I'm getting ready to start taking my pre-requisites for the nursing program. I have to take Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology. I was thinking about taking Chemistry, Anatomy, and Micro in one semester this fall (it would be just those three classes. I'm all done with all my gen. ed for the A.S. degree).
In everybody's opinion (and experience) would this be too much to take in one semester? Or is it do-able?
I'm going to be working part-time (I'm an assistant preschool teacher) and I'm a pretty hard working student (not so great at math, but excellent at memorizing).
I just wanted to get some feedback because I am pretty excited and anxious to get these classes done, but I don't want to fail them either!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! :)

That depends on how good you are in science, how much free time you have, do you have a family/kids, etc? If you are single, childfree, don't care about a social life and math/science comes naturally to you, you might try it. However if you aren't a math/science person and have other life commitments, I wouldn't take more than two of these heavy science classes, each have a lab component and are time consuming in and out of class. I did take Anatomy and Physiology together and it was do-able working part time and having two kids. I'd take A&P together though as they complement each other.

Absolutely do NOT take all three science classes in one semester, the amount of prep work and study time is staggering.
Chemistry requires a lot of time for the equations and problems, Micro and Anatomy each require a lot of memorization, which adds up to a lot of time.
I did take Micro and Anatomy in one term and regretted it. ( I worked and have kids. )

My advice to you would be to put your entire life schedule onto a single grid page. Include at least 2hrs study time for each hour spent in class, including labs, the time you spend at work, the amt of time commuting , personal time, laundry etc. Look at it seriously. If you want better than C's, you should re-think this. You will probably find that it is too much if you have anything to do besides school.
PS Good luck in Nursing School! The hardest job you'll ever love.

You are the only person who can answer this question.

I'm not good at hard sciences, but that tells you nothing about YOU.

What does your instinct tell you? What is your previous experience with these subjects or courses related to them?

What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

In most schools, 12 hours is considered the minimum full-time class load. Do you need financial aid? If you fall below 12 credit hours will you qualify for financial aid? If you register for all four courses, how long do you have to make a choice to drop a course?

If you have an academic adviser, go talk to him or her. That person will have much better information for you than strangers on the internet that know nothing about you.

Even for the best student not working this would be a tall order to fill. I would say only take 2 a quater and pace yourself. I know youre excited to get them done but getting a better grade is most important. Nursing school is beyond any kind of competition you can imagine, you need 4.0 to have a fighting chance. Go slow take your time get good grades and get some volunteer work under your belt. good luck

In my opinion, if all 3 have labs, it would be too much to take along with a part time job. You should look at the class hours, and see how much time you would have to be in class.
