Even the ultra conservative president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has said that scientific research "points to some level of biological causation" for homosexuality & "I am absolutely confident that a large number of homosexuals are telling the truth when they say they did not choose that orientation."
An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.
Another study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Researchers found extreme differences between women who had gay sons and women who did not.
A Canadian university study published in June of 2006 stated that, although researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, that the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.
A January 2007 report suggested to be gay you need to receive one gay gene from both parents, and that those with only one gay gene have a selective advantage because they are heterosexual but have increased style, male sex drive, charm and seductiveness towards women.

I am gay and there have been no traumatic events in my life.
oh except people thinking that i chose to be gay, thats a little traumatic. but no molestation if thats what you mean.
I personally feel that I was born gay. I am just naturally drawn to women, always have been ever since I was little. Of course I didnt realize it until I was older. It never felt like a choice. I am just not drawn to men the way I am to women. I dont dislike men but I am simply not attracted to them, and I am to women.
As far as trauma in general, people who are molested are just as likely to turn out straight as gay as far as I know. this was the only website i was able to find: http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetails.aspx?p=243&np=293&id=2358#13

who knows? they might actually be "born" that way from a mutation in the gene or something (is there even a gene for sex preference?). maybe society might even be influencing people who were never in gay to think that they are gay, and therefore, become gay. a lot of possibilities, i can say. if you support gay, go ahead and influence your children, maybe they'll become gay too. if not, then i suggest that you don't block the gayness, but instead teach whatever you think about gay ppl to ur kids. exposure to that made me even more sure that i , am not, and will not EVER be gay.

Well I can't give scientific study references but I can give you some pretty sound personal observation evidence that homosexuality is genetic.
One of me strongest cases was that of identical twins. (exactly the same genes)
Identical twin boys for the most part raised in different environments.
One realized pretty early in his teens that he was gay and the other fought his own feelings got married and had couple of kids and then just came out and realized he couldn't live a lie and admitted to himself and everyone else he was gay.
So they are both gay and both genetically identical but raise in different environment.
It follows if environment was the cause these two men should not both be gay as they were not raised in the same environment.
So there has to be a strong genetic link for homosexuality.
Second strong case, I know a family who has both male and female homosexuals in every generation ( at least 2 or 3) as far back as they can figure out (at least 4 generations they can know for sure). We are talking one immediate family here.
The sheer number of homosexuals in each generation and the fact that they have them in every generation of their family certainly suggests that it is a genetic and inherited trait like hair/eye colour etc.
They believe this to be true themselves.
There are other observation and experiences that have lead me to believe it is absolutely genetic.

Yup trauma, you see we're all dropped on our heads just so, and like any concussion it causes our thinking to go askew.
Yes I'm kidding, it's something that we're born with, though the causes are unknown.
Here's a whole page for you:

born gay....there are no "traumas" that make us "turn" gay. the haters can repeat the same lies, assumptions and stereotypes over and over...it doesn't make them true, it only makes them look more ignorant. I know I made no choice. think about it....did you ever make a conscious decision that you would be straight? of course not. you just are! nothing ever "happened" to me. I've simply only ever been attracted to women, never men. period. as far as "links," my life is my proof.

let's be understanding people! However, I do not believe they are born that way. From my encounters most have been molested. But I don't treat them any differently and I'm a Christian, yep, and I know most people have this negative connotation associated with Chrisitanity, but, I honestly do not force my belief system ,but I do have firm stances on issues and I show my christianity by not judging or making funny faces when I see them, I smile and converse, they are people, they aren't a disease!
