Without even looking at the other answers that you were given, I'll bet that most will say that the Harley is too expensive, and the Jap bike is better built. To those people, I have a couple of responses. First, look at all of these questions, with problems that people are having. Most are from jap bikes, not Harley's. If the jap bikes are so good, why do so many people have problems with them? Years ago, jap bikes were a lot cheaper than Harley's, but look today at todays prices. I checked out a Gold Wing and it costs between $17,000 and $27,000. The street Glide that I have cost $19,000...so which is more expensive? The best bet would be to go to each dealer and compare bikes. All Harley's, (2007) come with the 96 Cubic inch engine, which is roughly 1585cc. Not sure what a GSX-R is, but base the price difference on the cc's style and resale value. Remember that all of the jap bikes, design their bikes to look like Harley's. Why would you think that is?

I read an interesting stat the other day online: It said that 95% of all H-D's ever built are still on the road. The other 5% actually made it home.
Seriously though. Who cares what you ride? Buy what you like and be happy with it. And just because you ride a Gixxer doesn't mean that you won't "live a false biker lifestyle" - some sport bike guys think they have to ride wheelies and endos just because their bike can do it. That's as "false" and stereotypical as the guys who ride their H-D's straight to the bar and sit there for 3 hours drinking beers and think it's OK to ride home (or to another bar). Your "lifestyle" is determined by how YOU ride, not how other people that have similar bikes ride.
And for the record, I ride a CBR. My Honda is as reliable now as it was when I took it off of the showroom floor. The only problems I've had with it were because of something I did wrong as a rider - not because of inferior quality coming from Japan. So some of you H-D guys and girls can get off of your high horse about how superior "Milwaukee" quality is compared to metric bikes.

What happens if instead of H-D or Jap reader will study the
offspring between an actual mating of H-D and BMW ?
Interested? Download the 2006 Owners Manual so you can
get your moneys worth immediately. Also include a second
source to increase fun and spur reader to have another think
about its winter use abilities.

Why do you have to live a certain way because you own a Harley? I own a Harley. I also do not have a tatoo, I don't dress in leather unless I'm riding, I don't go to biker rallies,I have never been to a biker bar or flashed my t!ts at anyone.
Sorry to break up your stereotype there. Ride what you want and live how you want.

Grow up. All Japanese bikes are not GSX-Rs. They make other stuff too, in case you hadn't noticed.
Have whatever lifestyle you want, and can afford.
You won't get your money's worth out of that bike anyhow.

Unless you like the feel of flying head first....go with the Jap. If you like to stretch your legs out and be comfy (which is what I like to do), and own American Iron.....you can never go wrong with a Harley.

No one, nothing, can force you be, or act like, something you are not.
"Ride your own ride" has more than one meaning.
