Usually it's President Stephen Grover Cleveland who's called "the Veto President" (although FDR had more vetos).

Could that be : "S G" for Stephen Grover? I don't think so. Ceck where the "G" came from.

By my research, "Veto President" has to be Stephen Grover Cleveland, best known as Grover Cleveland. "GC" Check your answer that provides the "G" in the second position

Northern general during the civil war. Probably "Grant," if there are two spaces between the r and t.

Kennedy's successor.. . (I am assuming you mean President Kennedy.) Lyndon Baines Johnson. "LBJ"

Have to think about the first one, but the 2nd one is Grant and the 3rd one is LBJ

I don't know the first one, but the second has to be Grant and the last one is LBJ-Lindon Johnson....
