They sure *do* get viruses, but being a smaller market they just don't get as many as the PC crowd.
One of the older Mac viruses was the Energizer Bunny, that travels down the Appletalk network. It will move from one computer's screen to another's screen, then to another, then another...

Hi there,
Sure, you can write viruses for the Mac. It just isn't worth writing one for the Mac. The market for Mac is NOT big enough for the virus writers to consider it as significant market. Just like there weren't any viruses for Firefox in the beginning, it will take some time for viruses to appear for the Mac :-)
But ... people have started writing for the mac. Why, they have even started writing viruses for the iPod!!

Because all the virus makers are making viruses for Windows.
I mean really if you were a person making viruses which OS would you choose to make a virus for, Windows (which is on 93.24% of all the computers in the world) or Mac (which is on 6.08% of computers)?

no one really answered your question so ill try to elaborate...in its most simplest of terms...the programing of the mac operating system is far more complex then windows. its not because there are fewer macs..its because writing a virus for a windows based computer is easy due to its inferior coding.
only 10% of all viruses are written for macs....i use both. a mac for the internet and a pc for everything else
