If a poll has been steadily trending in the same direction...for let's say - over a year and seems to relect a solid consensus of the American people - do you still maintain that a poll doesn't matter? I've seen a LOT of Republicans posting that Bush is correct to ignore all polls. So, I guess my big question is this. Are you saying that what the majority of citizens think is not important? Are you saying what IS important is what the Gov't thinks is correct? Doesn't this smell like socialism/communism?

Actually, historically speaking, what Bush and his supporters have been doing can most closely be associated with Facism:

Powerful and Continuing Nationalism; Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights; Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause; Supremacy of the Military; Controlled Mass Media; Obsession with National Security; Religion and Government are Intertwined; Corporate Power is Protected; Labor Power is Suppressed; Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts; Obsession with Crime and Punishment; Rampant Cronyism and Corruption; and Fraudulent Elections.

If he keeps ignoring the polls the Republicans will not only lose the presidency in 2008, but the Democratic majority in the House and Senate will be so great as to prevent filibuster.

The security of our country is Bush's responsibility and it is a large one. He needs to make the decisions he believes is best based on the info he is given and we are not privilege to a lot of that info. If people don't like the way he handles it their option is to vote him out of office , not bash him in public like immature children. Our country is at war and we need to support our leader until it's time to elect a new leader. Bush is taking his responsibilities very serious while the democrats just think it's all a big game about who wins the arguments. Bush is doing what he thinks is right , not what will make him popular. Being president is a serious job , not a popularity contest.

Well the key is "seems to relect a solid consensus of the American people ".
I take most polls with a grain of salt so to speak, because they are skewed.
Pollsters will phrase questions to have a greater likelyhood of showin what they want to show. And they will poll people who are more likely to answer how they want them to answer.

If you believe in environmental rights will you go poll outside a factory, or maybe you will poll in a area with alot of environmentalists.
If you believe in the right to bear arms, is it reflecting a solid consensus if you go poll people coming out of an NRA convention?

I know I might be showing things a bit exagerrated but they do do these kinds of things to a degree.

Bush's cronies watch polls and they are his handlers. He went to Virginia. right?. Study SPC and you will know the truth about polls.
Republicans always say they mean nothing when they do not favor Republicans. This is a old worn out tactic they use to avoid the truth. Even Rush Limpwade recently said of his own poll that Hillary has a 80 percent chance to win in 2008. As always Rush is stupid, she has a 95 percent chance to win. She will raise the $500 million needed, Obama will not. BTW, Get the link quick as Republicans will remove it.

Are you really that naive?

Polls only reflect the majority of the people that answer them. For the most part, polls are conducted and reported by liberal entities. Conservatives do not answer them. Many are not even trustworthy enough to tell you the truth regarding who answered.

So, you see, only fools put much stock in polls. They are usually proved wrong in regards to elections. Bush is correct to ignore all polls!

Polls matter, but should not be the ONLY criteria used to make a decision.

It is often the ways that a poll is reported that is distorted. I try to read into the polls internal stats. If these stats are not provided I disregard that poll (lots of Zogbys fall in this category).

Bottom line = Polls are not nor should they be considered the be-all end-all of decision making.

I suppose you believe all those commercials that say 9 out of 10 dentists recommend this prodcut? Any poll can be rigged, all you have to do is poll people of the targeted audience, or poll 300 people: 160 say yes and 140 say no, narrow the field down to 200 hundred, eliminating 10 of the 160 yes answers and 90 from the 140 no answers and say 150 say yes and 50 say no! Like I said, any poll can be rigged!

I believe that would be Mondale. He kept repeating that when he was getting spanked by Reagan in 1984.

Otherwise we voted Bush to lead our country and lead he will.
We did not elect him, so you and yours could dictate policy.

You are to easily lead by the blowing wind and have not a vision as to the precipice the Democrats are surely leading us towards.

What I like about the statement "polls don't matter" is the fact it means somebody is standing up for what they BELIEVE is right.
