Failure? No way. The war was a bust but look at all the American firms that are making billions on reconstruction. I think they must be behind the terrorists. They rebuild and the terrorists come in again and bomb the buildings to the ground. A money-making cycle.

The Iraq war was a success initially but it was failure when it comes to reconstruction because there is chaos among the people who do not want the government established by Americans.

The reconstruction has been really good for Haliburton and a few other companies , but in general, not so good for Iraqis. Say what you will about Saddam, he held the country together and kept it from civil war. The sanctions were working. Oh, well, what now ?

If you were to give the Iraqi Sunnis (insurgents) most of Iraq's oil then there could possibly be hope short of that happening the US just doesn't have (and has never had) enough troops to finish the job.

About as much hope as there is for reconciling the Sunnis with the Shi'ites, or the Catholics with the Protestants, or the Jews with the Palestinians, or the Creationists with the Evolutionists.

Since the aim (at least the one they told us) was to combat terrorism and it has only inreased the total number of people willing to commit terrorist acts in the world then I would say it is a failure.
