Australia has been de-salinating seawater for years.
It is 70% of their water consumption.
Why can't Australia do this? You have an unlimited supply.
There is no shortage of water in Australia, just a shortage of de-salination plants.

Drinking water can be used to irrigate. The ocean is a virtually unlimited supply of water. If Saudi Arabia can do it, why not Australia?? You have to find a way, regardless of cost. God gave us brains to use so that we can solve our own problems.

That's actually not true, we havn't been using de-salinated seawater for years at all. Our government wants to start puting in in but they say it will cost millions to do so and they arn't gona use seawater it's sewerage water that will be purafined, ( I think that is discgusting but what can we do )so in the meatime I do agree with you that Australians are wasting a lot of water I think that some are in denial that there really is a shortage supply, I do my part to save as much water as I can, but then you see others who couldn't care less. I think the water board should cut their supply to teach them a lesson that they need to conserve.

To fill the Murray River, we need rain. A lot of it. We have enough water to drink. De-salination plants will not produce enough for agriculture. What we need to do is put back trees, a lot of them, to cool the areas down a bit, this will encourage rain. Australia used to be covered in trees along the coast and for kilometres inland. I live near a creek which used to run all the time, now it has been dry for nearly two years. We need to encourage rainfall.

Australia drought is an agricultural problem, the amount of water needed for growing crops is order of magnitude larger than what is needed for drinking and industrial purposes.

Australia has failed to plan or implement any water facilities. They have not constructed a new reservoir since 1969. They require the people to have roof gutters that drain into tanks, they do not allow watering yards, except with well water. Their population has grown, but they do not have the infrastructure to provide.
