No, it doesn't. The point of liberalism is less government - and more freedom to personal rights. That's the crutch of liberalism. That's its heart.

It was developed by the French - during and after an extraordinary period called the 'Terror' (sic) and was a reaction against the government, against Conservative/Monarchy values.The Civil War was an extension of these ethics.

You want a gun in your house? You want companies to have free reign? You want the state to not involve? You want corporations to take control? You don't want benefit? That's *liberalism*!

So do you still think liberalism is pro-government?

They actually now call it "Classic Liberalism" or 19th Century liberalism.

Democrats stole the name "Liberal" in the 20th Century & made it their own and completly ruined the name. Liberalism (since FDR) has been all about pro- "BIG Government" which is so ironic since the word liberal orginally meant liberty, individual freedoms, & Small Govt.

You should use war sparingly. Even people who called themselves liberals were pro-war in Afghanistan. Bush had a very high approval rating for the way he handled the war in the beginning.

You speak of old fashioned liberalism. I know this for certain, because i am one(conservative by today's standards). Modern liberals today are nothing more than socialists/communists/fascists all rolled up in one. These "truths" are in fact very self evident. So you are in fact right and wrong at the same time.

Liberal as in the context of Democratic is not libertarianism.

Libertarian= n.

1. One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state.
2. One who believes in free will.

You are talking about liberalism as it pertains to economics not a political movement. There is a difference. I'm a progressive who thinks neo liberal corporate, capitalist and colonialist economic ideas have gone way too far.

It's a good word badly used and misinterpreted that offers the survival, nurture, and growth of mankind generally. However, some confuse an open mind with a cracked head.
